THE JULIUS, PRAGUE

Prague rightfully maintains its position as a historical gem on the list of almost every contemporary traveler. And in the form of The Julius residence, newly opened in the city center on Senovážné náměstí, Prague is now getting a completely new concept of modern hotel and apartment-type accommodation. The combination of a great location, a historic building, a sensitive renovation, a thoughtful design concept and all the latest technologies will add another experience to modern nomads in their wanderings through the centennial mother of cities.

The residence building has a rich past. The Neo-Renaissance house "U Bílého koník" was built in 1891-1892 according to the design of the architect Josef Blecha. The building was gradually further expanded with additional floors and buildings in the depth of the plot. The house underwent the most extensive modifications in the years 1921-1923 under the baton of architect Max Spielmann. At this time, the building was owned by C.T. Petzold and used as offices and warehouses. The street tract was equipped with a mansard roof, the eastern courtyard wing with a gallery was also raised and a completely new western wing was added. The beginnings of C. T. Petzold et al. date back to 1892, when Karl Herrmann Petzold from Nejdek and Michael Ignaz Knips from Vienna founded a public trading company that dealt with the sale of products from non-Czech smelters and sheet metal rolling mills and the purchase of raw materials and semi-finished products. The company's seat was first in Nejdek, later in Vienna and then in Prague. From 1951 to 1991, the steel company Schoeller - Bleckmann was located in the building. In the 1990s, the building underwent another major renovation, during which almost all historically valuable elements were removed. Today, only the Neo-Renaissance facade facing the street is subject to historic protection.

A new beginning for the building began only with the transition to the ownership structure of the Austrian family company Julius Meinl. “We created The Julius because we identified an imaginary hole in the accommodation market for modern travelers. We are happy to be the first to offer this type of accommodation at a first-class level in Prague," says Julius Meinl VI, adding: "The Julius is an apartment-type residence offering a cozy feeling of home in the middle of a big city." It represents a new concept of short- to long-term residential design living, which with its approach emphasizes the uniqueness and exceptionality of the location, respect for the traditions and history of the city. Guests can choose from 168 rooms of various sizes, in a very high standard of design and mostly equipped with a living area and kitchen, a separate bedroom and a functional installation of modern technologies of the 21st century. The interior design with art deco elements was created by a team of award-winning Italian architects Matteo Thun & Partners. The unifying element for the whole of The Julius Prague is the inspiration of Alfons Mucha's style. The color range from his works is carried over to the interior, and the art deco period is reflected both in the designer functional furniture and the selected accessories. A pleasant palette of autumn colors, natural materials and brass details pervade all interiors. The first-class interior fittings are underlined by wooden oak floors, modern bathrooms and fine fabrics and bed linen. Everything together forms an elegant space with a sense of detail, in which it is cozy and naturally becomes a home for its guests.

Italian designer Matteo Thun, who prepared the interior designs with his team, explains: "House of Julius Meinl is one of the most famous Austrian brands with a history dating back to 1862. We have been working with Julius Meinl on similar projects for 15 years." Matteo Thun further highlights : "Only a thorough knowledge of family traditions and history helped us in creating the entire brand The Julius, for which the connection of traditions and contemporary lifestyle is crucial. We wanted to transform a historic palace in Prague into a temporary home for our guests." The masterpiece of designer Tereza Drobná stands out in the historic and heritage-protected part of the building. According to her design, the world-renowned manufacturer of crystal products Preciosa created a 16 m long chandelier. "We had a completely free hand when designing the lighting throughout the residence. The designers of the studio Matteo Thun & Partners came up with chic, modern and diverse interiors. The basic requirement was to transfer the genius loci of Prague into the interior design concept. I therefore decided to introduce elements of cubism into each light element. In the hand-blown and ground rods, the new design captures this iconic style for Prague. Through light, it is the discovery of the shapes and patterns of Cubist Prague.”

BERKER R. CLASSIC MONO

MANUFAKTUR | ANODIC BRONZE MATT

ROCKER VERSION

IT IS COMPLETELY THE GODFATHER OF THE R. CLASSIC SERIES

CLEARLY LEGENDARY BAUHAUS STYLE.

A SURPRISINGLY SUCCESSFUL COMBINATION

Those who are not afraid to experiment and combine the seemingly incompatible can often discover a literal treasure! And that's exactly what we did - would you believe how surprisingly good a berker R.Classic frame can look with a berkerR.1/R.3 flap? We have put together two seemingly disparate design series: berkerR.Classic referring to traditional round switches from the beginning of the 20th century and berker R.1/R.3 - clearly millennial in appearance and origin. Their resulting combination will pleasantly surprise you and also shines with originality - you definitely won't find such a switch in every other interior. Do you dare him?

The interiors of the Julius residence were designed down to the last detail by the design team. At the same time, all the equipment serves a single purpose: it combines luxury and modern design with technologies serving its guests for greater comfort, convenience and satisfaction. Switches, sockets and other electrical installation control elements are one of the stones in the mosaic meeting these requirements. The choice fell on the round rotary switches with a modern look berker R.classic from the Hager company. "These robust switches do not hide their inspiration from the iconic classic rotary switches of the Bauhaus school, but bring their appearance into the third millennium," explains Thomas Grund, CEO of Hager in the Czech Republic. "For the interior of the Julius residence, however, none of the standard colors in which berker R.classic switches are produced were chosen. It was also necessary to add switches with a bronze feeling to the overall tuning of the interior. The task was made for our custom production program Hager Manufaktura," adds Thomas Grund.

The founder and owner of the MONOBRAND design store, Ms. Katrin Grund, who supplied the switches for the interior, notes this: "As part of the customer changes, we first had to invent and mix a special shade of color for the switches, which would reflect the requirements of the design team for the overall tuning of the interior. So we went through several rounds of designing and adjusting the color accent and choosing from a whole range of samples before we finally achieved the look we wanted," Katrin Grund explains the process of developing the custom switches. In the resulting appearance, you will find in the interior of The Julius not only switches and power sockets, but also all other wiring elements of modern wiring, including, for example, blind switches or USB sockets for convenient charging of mobile phones. "The collaboration on The Julius project was more than just a business case for us. Because just like the House of Julius Meinl, the Hager company is also a family business, still owned and managed by the descendants of the founding fathers. The philosophies of our companies are close to each other: respect for traditions, a sense of responsibility towards future generations and a strong customer orientation, as you are de facto vouching for the services provided in your own name," thinks Thomas Grund.

Whether for a weekend or a month or more, all guests will enjoy their stay here thanks to the freedom that The Julius residence concept offers. Each reservation is adapted to the requirements and wishes of the guest, from the individual delivery of parcels to the design of a tour of historical landmarks. Simple and self-service check-in and check-out, common spaces for co-working, a fitness center or a wide range of conference and meeting rooms are a matter of course. Bistros and restaurants offering not only premium House of Julius Meinl products are an integral part of the concept and invite not only staying guests but also all passers-by to a gastronomic experience. A perfectly blended cocktail of architecture, thoughtful design, modern technology, sustainability and attention to detail promises an unforgettable experience for everyone who steps into The Julius residence.
